This Korean super-genius might just be the smartest guy alive today
He's recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records
as having the highest IQ of anyone on the planet.
Kim entered university as a physics student at the age of three.
We're not sure how many parties he got invited to at that age,
but word has it nobody shotguns a juice-box like Kim Ung-yong.
Later at the ripe old age of seven, Kim was invited to the United States
by NASA to study, although to be honest we're guessing he was invited
because they suspected him of being an alien.

ROBERT JAMES "Bobby" FISCHER
Robert James Fischer (born March 9, 1943)
is a grandmaster and former world chess champion, who on
September 1, 1972, became the first American chess player
to win the FIDE World Chess Championship.
Garry Kasparov wrote that of all world champions of chess,
the skill gap between Fischer and his contemporaries
was the largest in history . Fischer is also well known for
his eccentricity, unconventional and irrational behavior,
and outspoken political views. Despite his prolonged absence
from competitive play, or perhaps because of it,
Fischer's victory over the Soviet champion Boris Spassky to win
the world championship in the " Match of the Century " was seen
as a symbolic victory for the West that catalyzed interest in
the game internationally. His opponent was portrayed, in the
United States in particular, as the product of an impersonal,
mechanical, and oppressive system of state control,
while Fischer was the solitary genius overcoming the Soviets'
claim to dominance. As a national hero, Americans were willing to forgive his behavior and views as eccentricities,
and in popular culture -
The match between Spassky and Fischer took place in Reykjavík,
Iceland, from July through September, 1972. Fischer lost the first
two games, the first on a blunder,
the second by forfeit when he refused to play his game.
It seemed that Fischer was going to forfeit the entire match
until Spassky intervened surprisingly, and yielded to Fischer's
demands to move the next game to a back room, away from the
cameras. After this controversial incident, Fischer
proceeded to win seven of the next 19 games, losing only
one and drawing 11, for a final score of 12.5 - 8.5, to win
against Spassky.

Meet the world's youngest
chess grandmaster
Born in Manila on October 9, 1993 to accountants William and Eleanor So, Wesley So was raised in a conservative Filipino family. He was aged 6 when his father taught him to play chess, and aged 9 when he started to compete in junior active chess tournaments. His aggressive style caught the attention of professional chess players, including former Philippine chess champion IM Rodolfo Tan Cardoso. Cardoso remarked, "The young lad... would sacrifice a queen or any other pieces in his arsenal to get a winning attack." He also noticed that So did not have the full sponsorships enjoyed by the other chess prodigies, saying "He cannot afford a decent training given by well known GM-coaches and has to rely on his pure talent, diligence...before competing."So achieved his final Grandmaster norm on December 8, 2007 at the 3rd Pichay Cup International Open, emerging as the youngest Filipino GM at the age of 14 years, 1 month, and 28 days. He also became the 7th youngest to achieve the GM title in chess history, narrowly beating French GM Etienne Bacrot by a few days. On April 2008, his rating of 2540 makes him the highest ranked chess player in the Philippines, slightly ahead of famous Filipino GMs Mark Paragua, Bong Villamayor, Nelson Mariano and Darwin Laylo.

THE 1965 UE- UST CAGE FINALS Its UE's Robert Jaworski vs. UST's Danilo Florencio in the 1965 UAAP basketball finals. The two great basketball warriors later figured in many unforgettable cage wars in the amateur league (MICAA) and the professional league (PBA) in the 6os and 70s. THE UE-UST RUBBER MATCH:
A CLASSIC OF A CAGE CHAMPIONSHIP
"Last minute errors, swift steals decide nerve-wracking contest"
The best of three games for the 1965 UAAP basketball diadem went to the University of the East, but the hero of the third and decisive match came from the losing team. He was Danilo Florencio, a 19-year old UST forward, whom nobody could stop that night--- except the referees. And when Coach Caloy Loyzaga's prized rookie fouled out in the closing minute after a spectacular 40-point performance, UST's retention bid for crown crumbled under the terrific pressure put on by the mighty UE warriors. Although spotty officiating hurt the Goldies more than it did the Warriors--- only one of the UST first stringers survived the game--- UE could not be denied its hard-earned victory. But for Florencio's superb showing, Chief Warrior Robert Jaworski was the outstanding star of the evening, grabbing those rebounds like nobody's business and scattering 29 precious points, the last two of which came off Florencio's fifth and costly foul and tied the score at 84-all, with 10 seconds to go. At this stage, UST was a badly crippled lot, and Loyzaga had to scrape the bottom of a shallow bench; the reserves he sent in to face a still intact UE first team fell apart with a series of boners which enabled the Warriors to pull two sensational steals and put in four points to clinch the thrill-chocked contest. The ending reminded fans of UST's triumph in the first of the three-game championship series last Oct. 31, when Florencio made two lightning interceptions in the last few seconds to give his team a hairline 69-67 victory. The Warriors evened matters in the second game, 72-65, by blanking George Lizares, one of UST's chief gunners. And Florencio was not so hot that time, making only 17 points, most of which came rather too late to check a determined UE crew. Ironically, that night Florencio was at his hottest--- the entire UE team practically ganged up on him, to no avail--- UST lost the title and made Florencio the most frustrated hero in the history of UAAP cage competitions. =====

Dear Manny - by F. Sionil Jose
Now, here is my unsolicited advice: Retire now, do not look for another fight although the temptation to do so is very great. You don’t have to prove yourself again. There is more than enough glory you have already earned for yourself and your country. And with that glory, a fortune as well.
I saw this TV documentary showing you distributing so much money and goodies in General Santos. You are very generous, Manny, and thank God you are. But be careful with your charity because you will be taken advantage of.
Better to “teach a man how to fish, so you will be feeding him all his life” than giving him a fish today.
See to it that your charity is given where it will do the most good. For this, you may have to ask the help of an NGO, or the Secretary of Social Welfare, Esperanza Cabral; she is hardworking and very honest — you can learn from her and, in the process, institutionalize your charity.
Remember: to be useful, money must be spread around properly.
I can see that there are so many politicians clinging to your shirt tail. They need to bask in your shadow. How will you shake them off?
Ask them to help you by supporting your charity projects.
Do not run for public office, for congressman, even as mayor of your hometown. Politics will sap your energy, the goodwill that you have amassed nationwide. You will then become cynical and you will lose your humanity.
If the call of politics is such that you cannot deny it, then during each election season, select a candidate who you may not know personally but who is honest, well intentioned, and has the interest of the masa like us. Go with him on his campaign tour.
Just be seen with him — you don’t have to say anything.
You must, however, leave a legacy for which you will always be remembered.
I suggest two:
1. A foundation that will provide assistance for disabled athletes, boxers, provide them with medical care, livelihood.
2. Start a college for athletic training and for future physical education instructors for our colleges and universities.
You must establish this in a region where there is enough space for a gym, a track field, basketball courts, etc.
As you very well know, we have performed badly in the Olympics. China has a national program for training its athletes, gymnasts from childhood onwards. We need this kind of school, to instill in our athletes the hard work and the discipline such as you possess.
As superbly illustrated by you, Filipinos are such individualists, they are tailor-made for solo sports shooting, tennis, swimming, archery, gymnastics.
But we must also develop skills in teamwork, which is essential for so many other sports.
Teamwork is very important not only in sports but in almost all social and business enterprises.
You know, too, that there is a lot of corruption in the official athletic program of the government. Try and wean the program away from corruption.
And now, as for the politicians who always want to be seen with you: ask them for help in setting up these two institutions.
If they are sincere fans of yours, they will help.
Regarding your own social and cultural background, don’t mind those people who criticize your English — they have not gotten to where you are. Let your Mama enjoy your wealth — she deserves it and so do you. Don’t let middle-class conventions stifle you — you dictate your terms and do not be afraid.
Express your thoughts the way you want to. You have earned the right to be what you are, to speak your mind because now you are truly free.
You have independent means, Manny; you are not beholden to any high government official, or to our irresponsible elites.
We, the people, owe you our pride.
No writer in this country is rich, but just the same, let me donate a little to those two institutions if and when you set them up.
They will be your true and lasting legacy — this old hack can assure you of that.

THE SIMPLE LIFE
Currently, Lim Eng Beng is working as the head coach of the high school varsity team of Chang Kai Shek, his high school alma mater.
...
Lim is living a peaceful life in his laid-back abode in Quezon City. His eldest son already graduated from De La Salle University with a degree in Financial Management and is already working in one of the corporations in Quezon City.
...
At 53, Beng can still play the game he used to excel at.Every Tuesday, he still plays hoops with his friends at a gym in San Juan. He's still the team captain of the 50s and up Filipino-Chinese basketball team which competes in various local tournaments.
And surprisingly, it's not only basketball he plays to keep himself constantly fit. He's also an ace in tennis, playing at the nearby Philippine Cultural Tennis courts weekly.
When asked whether if he would entertain the possibility of coaching the Green Archers in the near future, he broke into a smile, "Sure, why not?For me, it's anything for La Salle."
And when that happens, I sincerely believe that the old, I mean the older Lasallians will come back flocking to the games again.
For Lim Eng Beng will go down in La Salle history as not only an icon - but rather an institution not only in DLSU basketball, but the institution per se as well.
